Break In Central

Thanks for the post from Sylvester Campbell

I have a story to tell you guys and it isn’t a very nice one. A few Thanksgivings ago I was visiting my parent’s house for the holiday and had decided to take my eighty five pound dog with me. Normally he stays at home but since I was planning to be gone from the house for a few days I decided to take him with me. Over the holiday I had a great time with my family and then decided to head home the Friday after Thanksgiving. When I pulled in to my driveway I got the surprise of my life and not in a good way. The front door to my adorable 1920’s cottage had been busted in and was standing open for just anyone to walk in and rummage around. It turns out I had been robbed while I was away with my family. It was the worst experience of my life. You never know just how terrible it is until it happens to you. I felt so incredibly violated I didn’t even know what to do with myself. Shortly after that I decided to call Atlanta HOME SECURITY to get my whole home set up with an alarm system.

Bring in the new year with style

My wife and I plan on purchasing a nice gift for her father, my father in-law, in the next couple of months.  We plan on giving the gift to him when we visit him this summer.  We plan on taking a nice long vacation and spending some quality time with our family (especially her father) that we have not seen in a while.  They live about twelve hours away, by airplane, thus our reason for the extended vacation.  We want to make the most out of our vacation.

We both believe that a watch will be an excellent gift for her father.  We have narrowed down our selection of watches, which we believe her father will really like; these include Invicta watches, Kinetic watches, Eco drive watches, and Chronograph watches.  I really like all of these types of watches and I believe her father will like whichever one we select.

A watch as a gift is hard to beat.  As I have mentioned in the past, I actually used to collect watches.  I would ask for a watch almost every Christmas.  Watches stand the test of time; they don’t lose sentimental value when given as a gift.  It’s almost certain that the receiver will always cherish the elegant timepiece they receive.  Once we select a watch, we will post a picture; so stay tuned…

A Friendly Game of Golf

I have played golf various times in my life.  I am by no means an avid pro golfer.  From what I have learned, I can say that the techniques used in golf are harder than what I had imagined.  I figured that if I swung the golf clubs as hard as I could, with all of my strength, then the ball would kindly land on the green for me every time; sadly the golf ball and my assumptions were not on the same page.

My friends and I used to hit the greens on the weekends and shoot the bull over a game of golf.  We were all evenly matched.  Each of us had our strengths and weaknesses when it came to the game of golf.  I was naturally good with golf wedges.  For some reason I could use a wedge better than a driver.  I was usually hit or miss when it came to putting, i was either hit or miss.

By the eighteenth hole, I was usually ready to start the game again, so that I could have another chance at a corrupt shot and hear some more lies.  I enjoyed those games of golf with my friends.  I have not played in a while as life has taken over and some of my friends have moved, but the memories remain…

Roll Tide???

Well it appears the Alabama Crimson Tide has won the BCS National Football showdown.  I would not have ever guessed that this game would have turned out this way.

The Tide dominated LSU.  The game was so one-sided that I really was not interested after the third quarter.  LSU could not muster any offensive drive.  I constantly asked myself why Les Miles did not place Lee in as the quarterback.  I even got a laugh when Jefferson shuttle passed an interception straight to Mosley.  It was almost as if he thought Mosley was an LSU player (HA).  All I can say is that LSU did not show up to this game, well at least their offense did not show up to this game.  Honey Badger did not have one big play the entire game, he just sat on the sidelines with a glum look on his face;  not depicting a honey badger at all…

I have listened to the radio and television announcers discuss the results of the game since Alabama slaughtered LSU.  I even heard one announcer say that LSU felt like they did not have to defeat Alabama a second time, hence the way LSU played.  All I have to say is that is crazy.  LSU would have went home with the title if they could have; but they did not, the better team won.  Congrats Bama…  I also heard an announcer state that Alabama did not even deserve to be in the game.  Please, that is the second worst statement I have heard concerning this game, bar the first statement above; Alabama more than proved they belonged in the game.  If Oklahoma State and Alabama played, Oklahoma State would say the same thing I just said… Alabama more than proved they belonged in the game.

All of this and I am not even a Bama fan.  LSU deserves credit as they played a great season, they had one of the best defenses in the league.  But certainly Alabama deserves to be the champion, as they won the war even if they lost a battle.

Reflect on this!

I have had to wear correct lenses for most of my life.  My twenty / twenty vision was gone by the time I was about five years of age.  I grew-up wearing eyeglasses, which have changed dramatically as technology has improved.

Eyeglasses used to be a heavy clunky object you wore on your face.  I can recall the numerous styles of eyeglasses I wore.  Gold framed goggles that were larger than my face; playing sports with eyeglasses that constantly fell off my face, not a pretty picture.  The glasses of yesteryear also got oily and dirty easily.  It seemed as though it was a full-time job trying to keep my glasses clean; removing smudges, grease, and fingerprints was never easy, even with the free cleaning cloth I was given with almost every pair of new glasses my parents purchased.

In today’s technologically advanced society, eyeglasses are fashionable accessories.  The lenses are much tougher and more resilient.  Zenni Optical even produces oleophobic lenses that actually resist fingerprints, oil and dust.  If only I would have had lenses like these around when I was a child, my childhood would have been a little easier.  But, I never had to walk ten miles to school up-hill, in the winter; so I guess I can’t complain.

Stay Warm this Winter

Before my wife and I sold our previous residence, we completely remodeled it.  One of the first tasks we completed was installing insulation in the garage.  The insulation we installed made a tremendous difference in the garage.

Before we re-modeled the garage, it did not have any type of insulation.  The exterior of the home was brick, which offered a little protection against the elements.  The first step in the remodel process was to remove the paneling that was installed in the garage.  I purchased insulation form local home improvement stores.  A tip I found to keep the cost of the insulation down was to look for busted insulation packs; the home improvement stores would let the busted insulation packs go at a discounted price.  I installed the insulation, which was time consuming as I did not have any assistance.  The insulation installation required a ladder, a razor (to cut the insulation), gloves, a mask, the insulation, and a staple gun (I used a manual staple gun that was not air powered).

After the insulation was hung between the studs in my garage, I installed dry-wall.  I also purchased an insulated garage-door and installed it in my garage.  When the project was complete, my garage was a great garage / workshop.  The elements had little to no affect on my garage.

Happy New Year!

As 2011 draws to a close, I look back and hope to learn from the past as I prepare to embrace the future.  To all of the blogging friends my wife and I have made this year and hopefully many new friends awaiting us in 2012; May you all have a healthy and prosperous New Year!

New House

Authored by Rickey Combs

My husband and I are expecting our third child and have decided that it is time to move. Our house is already a little cramped, and we will definitely need a bigger house once we have three kids. We have been looking at several houses with our realtor. We found one that we really like. It has enough bedrooms for all of us and a guest bedroom, an office, a basement, and a huge kitchen. I even noticed one of those home security keypads on the wall. We have never had a security system before, but it probably is not a bad idea. The realtor said that it is already installed, so all we would have to do is have it activated. This house is much bigger than our house now, so having a security system would make me feel safer. I think we are probably going to put an offer in on this house. It has everything we want and the added bonus of a security system. I am excited about moving and having more room. I just hope we can get moved in before the new baby gets here.
